CALL FOR PAPERS has now CLOSED

eM-Powering eFutures

VALA2012 asks: how are you eM-Powering eFutures?

Cultural institutions are being disintermediated by ubiquitous computing, the rise of social networking, fragmentation by mobile technologies and the challenges raised by itinerant staff. The proliferation of powerful connected smart mobile devices is revolutionising the way society accesses and interacts with information. We seek individuals and institutions who are actively working within these new paradigms to tell their stories. How are technologies shaping services? What technological skills are staff required to have? Are your clients satisfied or are their requirements being met elsewhere? VALA2012 looks to the immediate future and seeks presenters working to embrace technological change in information and cultural organisations.

The VALA2012 16th Biennial Conference is the premier library technology conference and exhibition for this region. It is a platform for innovation that promotes the use and understanding of information and communication technologies across a broad sector of Libraries with increasing participation from the Galleries, Archives and Museums sectors.

In presenting at VALA, speakers benefit from a quality peer-review process; their work will be published and made widely available. Be recognised, lead debate, gain professional development or class credits, improve job-seeking: these have been some of the benefits gained from being part of a VALA conference.

Papers are academic by nature and will be delivered as a formal presentation, speaking to the paper. There are also opportunities to present in less formal workshop and showcase formats. Please indicate if you wish to explore these options.

You are invited to suggest papers that relate in any way to innovative use of information and communications technology in cultural institutions, as suggested in the Conference Strands below.
