VALA Guest Speaker Event and Annual General Meeting
Fear, failure and frauds: is there an imposter in the library?
Libraries face certain extinction, or alternatively they are entering a golden age. It depends who you ask. What is without doubt is that libraries are transforming. In this talk, Justine will explore what it takes to succeed as a library leader in this changing environment. She will look at leadership qualities such as self-confidence, risk taking, resilience and creativity. Justine will ask you to face your fears and embrace your failures. Join Justine in asking the vexed question, ‘is there an imposter in the library’?
Speaker: Justine Hyde is the Director Library Services and Experience, State Library of Victoria

This happy accident led to senior executive roles in state government where she managed libraries, knowledge management, communications, community education, call centres, IT, digital and social media, and strategic planning. Justine is also a freelance writer who has published in The Age, Melbourne Review, Women’s Agenda, Wheeler Centre dailies, as well the usual library publications. A recent blog post Justine wrote on librarians and their self-confidence has had over 2500 views and was featured in ALIA weekly and American Libraries Direct.
