This presentation describes the developing commercial and practical application of new profiling methodologies using evolving metadata standards for relevant digital content. Drawing from past print practices, it illustrates how the historical boundaries that have separated the methods of content discovery and acquisition into distinct commercial and library operations (such as monographs, e-books, serials, journal articles and datasets) must be trespassed in order to assure the continued health and relevance of academic libraries and the industries that support them. It concludes by discussing the benefits, including cost-savings, streamlining and improved support for teaching and research, these new harvesting methods provide.
