Abstract

The Western Australian Group of University Librarians (WAGUL) was successful in obtaining a substantial grant from the Commonwealth Development Pool (CDP) to fund a major authentication project. The resulting WAGUL Authentication Project will deliver a distributed authentication infrastructure for the five Western Australian Universities. This paper describes the motivations for the project, the expected benefits and the journey itself.

Abstract

This paper, based on a research visit to the United Kingdom in 1999, discusses the electronic progress being achieved by some major British cultural institutions, particularly in comparison to digitization progress which has been made by Australia’s first prime ministerial library. It examines digitization of difficult collection areas such as multimedia and the desirability of upscaling digital projects.

Abstract

This paper discusses the analysis, design and implementation of an integrator system to share data between an institutional eprint repository (IR) and a University publications management system. The process of building IR functionality into the University system is described in the context of user demands to reduce data input to multiple systems, and the Library’s desire to increase the uptake and usability of its own eprint system.
