What is it: If you’ve ever needed to convert a document from one format to another, you’re going to love Pandoc. This short talk will introduce the free Pandoc utility and demonstrate how you can use it in GLAM work.
Who is it for: A rapid tour of the basic features of Pandoc for people who have never used it before. You will learn what is it and why it’s useful. At the end you should be able to run some simple examples yourself. This will suit people who are familiar with the command line (Windows, Mac or Linux), and need to manage documents in a variety of markup and publication formats.
Presenter: Alec Clews
Alec is an IT geek (30+ years) who currently works as the technical integration manager at PaperCut Software in Melbourne. He spends a lot of time creating software and documentation for PaperCut’s various technology partners across the globe. As part of his work, Alec uses simple tools to make it easier (and faster) to get information to the people who need it. His current favourite documentation tools include Pandoc; plus Git, m4, Plantuml and others. He programs in Python, Bash, Javascript, Java and a few other languages as needed. Before working at PaperCut, Alec worked as a technical consultant in Australia, South East and South Asia, Europe, America and the Middle East. Working as a consultant for so long has made him a “Jack of All Trades”.
