Abstract
The buzz of generative AI has added a sense of urgency to the already tense arena of technological policy. Multiple inquires, consultations and processes are running concurrently at federal, state and territory levels, with new initiatives and announcements coming thick and fast. With all the noise, it’s sometime challenging to spot which of the processes will have an impact on the day to day (and future) work in the library and information sector. And there’s a lot in play, from information literacy to ICIP, copyright, privacy, open access, misinformation and maybe democracy itself. And that’s just the short list. Join long-time library policy and legal reform expert Trish Hepworth, as we sift through the key policy and legislative reform processes underfoot. Together we will unpick the potential impacts of policy reform, discuss why it’s essential that libraries are actively engaging in the regulatory conversation, and how we can better advocate for our key values and ethical considerations to be built into the policies that govern the digital frontier.
