Abstract
In the late 70’s it was trendy for academic librarians to set up a co-operative initiative. Some Victorian Academic Libraries decided to take co-operative action and agreed to allocate funding for projects that could be managed by a central agency providing economical benefits to the participating institutions. One consultant, backed by another, had highlighted the need for a Shared Cataloguing system. If these libraries were to have a shared system, it made sense to share their collections. And if collections were being shared, they might as well exploit these collections as much as possible. Has anything really changed?
