Abstract

In the world of academic publishing, the landscape is undergoing a seismic shift, and the catalyst for this transformation is Open Access. A movement that has gained significant momentum over the past two decades, reshaping how researchers, institutions, and the public interact with scholarly content. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to the transition to Open Access, can Subscribe to Open (S2O) be the way forward to open up scholarship more inclusively and sustainably? Subscribe to Open (S2O) is emerging as a promising approach that can expand the reach of journals and provide clear benefits to international audiences eager for access to life-changing knowledge. It relies on existing library subscription procurement processes, providing a realistic and immediate route to opening a vast body of research output that would otherwise remain gated. This session aims to engage the library communities in a discussion on how S2O is changing the scholarly communication landscape and the far-reaching implications of this paradigm shift. We are also interested for libraries to share their experiences with the model and how S2O is perceived at different type of institutions. We welcome participation from librarians, funders and others with an interest in opening scholarly information for the public benefit.
