Abstract

In 2023, Flinders University Library along with the rest of the University were grappling with the rising use and availability of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as Chat-GPT. This presentation aims to underscore the importance of preparing Librarians for a future with AI in order to support students to develop the critical thinking and information skills required. A range of activities including the creation of a Library AI Community of Practice improved the confidence and understanding of Librarians in the complex range of ethical, and strategic uses of AI technologies. Coupled with the ‘critical thinking’ skills librarians are known for, the library was able to produce a range of resources and events to support students own development and understanding.
