Abstract
Over the past year, generative AI has made a huge impact in the education and information communities. Keeping library staff at all levels to develop AI literacy and acquire the skills to effectively assist library users presents a challenge. HKUST library’s self-developed program: The AI Interest Group, was created to address the challenges of staff development in AI literacy. The AI Interest Group is an experiment in semi-formal staff-self-development, open to any library staff member on a voluntary basis (37 out of 80+ library staff joined). We used an easy-to-use sharing platform, Microsoft SharePoint, to facilitate coordination and weekly updates on AI news and tools. The group has successfully held two engaging activities: the AI Image Competition (in conjunction with a holiday party) and a hands-on workshop on using different AI tools. This community of practice represents a fresh approach to foster continuous learning and growth in the fast-changing world of AI.
