Abstract

Libraries often evaluate their services, resources, and initiatives based on quantitative measures, such as ROIs and KPIs, which provide valuable data-based support for decision-making, but lack scope for qualitative considerations such as strategic alignment and institutional values and mission. Deakin Library has adopted a rubric-model as an alternative approach to evaluating Library collections and publishing agreements. Not only do rubrics offer a model that can include both quantitative and qualitative measures, they also provide librarians and academics a shared language for discussing decision-making related to library services. In this workshop, participants will engage in a series of participatory activities, working collaboratively in both small and large groups to brainstorm, develop and test a narrative-based rubric for service evaluation.
